SCOTT ARFIELD reckons Rangers have laid down a marker with their dominant Old Firm display at Ibrox.

The Light Blues moved level on points with Celtic at the top of the Premiership standings as Ryan Jack netted the only goal of the game on Saturday.

Boss Steven Gerrard saw his side produce their finest performance of the campaign so far as they clinched a hugely deserved victory when they needed it most.

Rangers will now head abroad during the winter break as Gerrard prepares his squad for the title run-in and a crack at the Scottish Cup in the second half of the season.

And midfielder Arfield was delighted to finish the year on a high after ending Celtic's long unbeaten Old Firm run and finally giving the Ibrox crowd something to cheer on derby day.

He said: “It means so much for this football club. It has been a number of years since this happened and this is what this club is all about, it is built on tradition and success.

“These fans have stuck by this club through thick and thin and that is what it is all about. It is a massive marker for us.

“We have been battered from pillar to post and you have good days and bad days at this football club but the belief never changes. The manager has installed an unbelievable group of human beings in that dressing room and you always believe, with that crowd behind you and we know we can get a result anywhere.

“We always want to be there, that is what this club is built on. We want to be at the top of this league.

“It is one game, it has got us back on track. We have had a number of bad results throughout the season but we have given ourselves a good chance.

“We rest up now, we go again and go harder than we have for this six months in the last five.”
