ANDY HALLIDAY insists Rangers will have to consider their season a failure if they don’t lift any silverware in Steven Gerrard’s first campaign at the helm.

The Light Blues progressed to the fifth round of the Scottish Cup with a 3-1 win at Cowdenbeath on Wednesday night as Halliday, Lassana Coulibaly and Kyle Lafferty found the target.

But Celtic’s win over St Johnstone in their game in hand at Parkhead saw them move six points clear of Gerrard’s side at the top of the Premiership standings.

The Gers have taken steps forward under the guidance of Gerrard this term but Halliday knows they must have a winner’s medal to show for their efforts come May.

He said: “Listen, I think you guys and the fans have given us a lot of praise this year because there has been progress.

“But, if we don’t win a trophy at the end of the year then it has been a failure of a season for my account.

“I have not won a real Rangers trophy since I have been here and I am obviously looking to try and win one. This is one of the two chances we have got.

“[The manager is saying the same] 100 per cent, nobody has got more of a winning mentality than that man. He is drilling that into the boys every single day.

“Like I say, the progress has been there but we need to progress even more if we want to win.

“I thought we bounced back well against Livingston, it is a difficult place to go. They were high flying at the start of the season and their form has dipped a wee bit so we went there and done a professional job there. But we need to keep that momentum going against St Mirren at home.”
