WES FODERINGHAM Keeper was handed a rare start as he came in for the suspended Allan McGregor. Had little to do in the first half as he saved well from Kane. His stop from Shaughnessy as he parried away a header with 15 minutes to go was even better. 7

JAMES TAVERNIER Had one of Rangers’ few chances in a poor first 45 minutes but a tame effort with his left foot summed up his performance at that stage. Didn’t get much better as the game went on and it was a disappointing afternoon for the Ibrox captain. 6

JOE WORRALL Wasn’t overly tested in a defensive sense as St Johnstone posed few problems in the first half. Came close with a volley early shortly after the restart and was decent enough overall. 6

CONNOR GOLDSON Didn’t have a lot to do in his own half and came close with a header from a Barisic corner. Distribution wasn’t always up to scratch as he saw plenty of the ball. 6

BORNA BARISIC Returned to the starting line-up and didn’t make the most of his chance as a couple of early slips set the tone. Had to improve after the break but couldn’t raise his game and was nowhere near the level that Rangers required. 4

GLEN KAMARA Handed his Light Blues debut following his switch from Dundee last month and was the best performer in the first half as he started brightly. One of the few who can be pleased with his own individual efforts. 7

ROSS MCCRORIE Was in the wars once again as he received treatment for a head knock and he couldn’t really assert himself on proceedings. Can’t be faulted for effort but wasn’t at his best. 6

STEVEN DAVIS It has been a somewhat low-key start for the Northern Irishman since returning to Ibrox and he didn’t contribute enough as an attacking threat here. No surprise he was first to be replaced before the hour mark. 4

DANIEL CANDEIAS The winger was given plenty of chances to cause St Johnstone problems but he didn’t make the most of them as he struggled. Ballooned a shot high over the bar with 25 minutes to go and that was his last involvement of a below-par afternoon. 5

RYAN KENT It wasn’t a surprise he was Rangers’ most potent attacking threat but his efforts went unrewarded in the first half. Tried his best to inspire the Gers but he couldn’t unlock the Saints’ defence as he at least showed some degree of creativity. 7

JERMAIN DEFOE Gave boss Gerrard a pre-match boost by declaring himself fit enough to start but chances were limited as Rangers failed to get the best out of him once again. Had almost no impact in the second half. 5

Substitutes:

GLENN MIDDLETON (for Davis) Gerrard’s first throw of the dice as he looked to spark his side into action. Had few opportunities to influence the game, though. 3

KYLE LAFFERTY (for Candeias) Showed no ill-effects of the knock that threatened to rule him out of action and came close on a couple of occasions. 4

LASSANA COULIBALY (for McCrorie) Got the final 15 minutes as he added fresh legs to the Rangers midfield. 2
