IT is far from ideal for Rangers to be sitting eight points adrift of Celtic in the Premiership but nobody at Ibrox will be writing off their chances of the title just yet.

There is still a lot of football to be played and a lot of twists and turns to come over the next few weeks. It won’t be easy for Rangers, but they can still mount a challenge this season.

It is Celtic in the ascendancy after they won at Rugby Park and opened up the gap, so they are even stronger favourites to go and win the league than they previously were.

But you won’t see anyone at Rangers chucking the towel in. You can’t do that when you are at Rangers and they need to regroup for one last charge.

I was part of a couple of teams that had mixed fortunes on the final days of the season so that shows you never to write anything off.

There are still plenty of points up for grabs and still two Old Firm games to be played but it is clear that Rangers have it all to do.

Celtic have the momentum now and they will be confident that they won’t let that gap slip. Rangers need to have the right mentality here.

They have proven that they can beat Celtic but they need to have a level of consistency over the next couple of months that they haven’t really shown so far this season.

They need to go on a run of winning games and building some momentum of their own. They need to believe that they can do it and try and put a bit of pressure on Celtic.

Even if that doesn’t pay off, they need to keep winning games to build a gap to Aberdeen and Kilmarnock to make sure they finish no worse than second.
