STEVEN GERRARD spoke this week about the progress that Rangers have made on and off the park this season and the half year accounts are further proof of that.

The profit of £5.2million that was posted showed the importance of the Europa League run and the work that the manager and the board have put in.

There were no questions, for me, that Steven was going to do Rangers a turn when he came in during the summer and I had no doubts over him as a manager.

We know he hadn’t been a boss before but he brought in experienced people and good people around him and there were good foundations put in place early on.

To be fair to Dave King and the board, they have backed him well. they gave him money to spend and allowed him to overhaul the squad once again and that investment paid off with the run in the Europa League that ultimately led to the profit.

That is certainly a good sign for the club and proof, once again, that the board are taking Rangers in the right direction on and off the park.

You get sick of hearing these nonsense rumours about the financial situation at Rangers and supporters certainly have nothing to worry about right now.

There is no doubt in my mind that Steven will get money to spend in the summer to strengthen the squad once again because he knows that more players need to be brought in.

It was nice to see that profit posted in the accounts and hopefully the year end figures are positive for Rangers as well.

But nobody at Ibrox will sit back and take anything for granted. There is plenty more work to do.
