CAN Steven Gerrard do what Pedro Caixinha and Graeme Murty spectacularly failed to do?

We might find out in just a couple of weeks.

Rangers, should they beat Aberdeen at Ibrox next Tuesday which is of course some way from a given, will meet Celtic at Hampden in the Scottish Cup semi-final for the third year in a row.

And what a game that would be at Hampden Park.

Rangers lost 2-0 under Caixinha in 2017 and last year, bluenoses look away now, Celtic won 4-0 in what was a dreadful day for Murty and the players.

Gerrard would have known that if he was to win a trophy in his first season then his best chance would be the Scottish Cup and he would have to beat Celtic to get their hands on the Ibrox club’s first silverware, proper, since 2011.

Aberdeen will have something to say about all of this. They have already beaten Rangers in Glasgow this season at Ibrox and Hampden in the League Cup.

There are many variables to be sorted out but one thing is for certain.

Sponsors William Hill's will be hoping for a fifth Old Firm game of the season.

And anyone who says the Scottish Cup is not exciting is talking nonsense.
