I didn’t know Eric Caldow that well but I met him a couple of times at Rangers functions and, as John Greig and Willie Henderson said, I found him to be an absolute gentleman.

He was also a wonderful footballer for Rangers and for Scotland. You have to be something special to be a Rangers captain.

Eric made 407 appearances for Rangers and was also capped 40 times by Scotland, captaining his country on 14 occasions. He had a wonderful career.

On the times that I was in his company, he just loved talking about Rangers, his club, and the supporters.

I was really sad to hear the news this week that he had passed away and my thoughts are with his friends and family.

The word legend comes out too easily in football these days and that description is used for too many players that don’t really deserve it.

But Eric Caldow was a legend. There is no doubt about it and the Rangers fans, young and old, will always remember him as a fine player for our club.
