GLASGOW favourites CHVRCHES have been shortlisted for the Scottish Album of the Year Award.

The electro rockers, who played the SSE Hydro earlier this year, are in the running for the gong for their album Every Open Eye.

The shortlist was announced at the BBC Quay Sessions on Thursday night.

The event showcased the talents of last year’s winner Kathryn Joseph who wowed the crowd with a cover of Massive Attack’s Teardrops.

Rising rockers Fatherson also performed at the live music session which was hosted by Vic Galloway and broadcast live.

The shortlist also Anna Meredith, Auntie Flo, C. Duncan, Emma Pollock, FFS, LAU, Steve Mason, The Revenge and Young Fathers.

FFS were the winner of the public vote which gave fans 72 hours between June 13 and 15 to cast their votes to have their favourite Scottish album included in the shortlist of 10.

The remaining nine slots were chosen by an independent panel of judges.

The process will culminate in a winning Scottish album picking up a £20,000 first prize while nine shortlisted titles will receive £1,000 each.

Now in its fifth year, the SAY Award ceremony on Wednesday, June 29 is one of the most lucrative in UK music.

For the first time, the SAY Award is being held at Paisley Town Hall to tie in with the Paisley bid for UK City of Culture 2021.

Run by the Scottish Music Industry Association (SMIA), previous SAY Award winners are Kathryn Joseph (2015), Young Fathers (2014), RM Hubbert (2013) and Bill Wells & Aidan Moffat (2012).

Caroline Cooper, of The Scottish Music Industry Association (SMIA), said: “We're delighted to announce The SAY Award Shortlist for 2016.

"It’s another bold list that highlights the quality and diversity in Scotland’s music scene as well as our international influence and we can only wish every album the best of luck going forward to our ceremony on June 29.

“Commiserations also, to the ten great albums that have missed out this year.”
