A spoof Facebook page has moved to lighten the mood for many Green Day fans after organisers behind the US group’s Glasgow gig cancelled the show at the last minute today.

South Lanarkshire Cooncil has said Green Day will now perform an impromptu gig set at a community hall in Lanark after the plug on the Bellahouston Park show was pulled just hours ago.

The page has described how fans were left “bitterly disappointed” after the concert was was cancelled “due to event staff having forgotten to build a stage.”

The hilarious post continues: “Thankfully, the band quickly organised rental of the acclaimed Brocketbrae Hall to perform an impromptu performance of their classic ‘Dookie’ album for local diehard fanatics and 12 sheep.

“Murmurs from backstage suggest a live DVD release of the show, as the band were so impressed by the acoustics of the hall.”

South Lanarkshire Cooncil is a spoof page that says it is “is here for you.”

The group behind the page has said: “Bringing you completely legitimate news from South Lanarkshire.”

On a more serious note, however, the cancellation of the gig has sparked a blame game between the band’s management and the promoters.

Organisers, PCL Presents, were continuing to cite “adverse weather conditions” at 4.30pm today as the reason the plug has been pulled.

However, a statement on the band’s website states there were issues with the safety of the stage.

Other sources have claimed that half the PA was missing, that rain water was coming onto the stage, and there were other technical problems.

Glasgow City Council said it played no role in the decision to pull the show.

It is understood Green Day’s management made the final call.

The promoters would not comment on reports that workers arriving at the site today were sent away unpaid but did say it would be releasing a further statement.

However, as reported by the Evening Times, a video emerged online showing staff being told they would not be getting paid for their shifts, but that they can claim back travel expenses.
