The sleepy town of Troon has descended into more chaos this afternoon just days after thousands of drunk revellers flocked to the beach in good weather.

Hundreds of boozed-up young people have flocked for the South Ayrshire beach today as temperatures soar to 25C in and around the area.

Videos and images are continuing to emerge online showing a large police presence in the area as other members of the public describe an even bigger cop presence at the local train station.

Other images and video have shown young people lying drunk in the sand as police escort other troublemakers away from the area.

According to local media reports, one 17-year-old has been arrested so far for possession of an offensive weapon.

The developments come on the same day Police Scotland and rail bosses enforced a strict alcohol ban between 10am and 2pm on all Glasgow Central trains leaving for the popular tourist area.

Chief Inspector Gary I’Anson, area commander for South Ayrshire, said this morning: “Whilst the majority of people come to enjoy the sunshine and the beach, sometimes on days like this a small minority make poor choices and can become involved in anti-social behaviour, resulting in officers intervening in incidents of disorder.

“I would appeal to everyone, particularly young people, to be considerate, make safe and positive choices in terms of where they are going, who you are going with and to think about what will happen when they get there.

“I would also encourage anyone with any specific concerns to speak to one of my local officers out on patrol or contact Police Scotland by calling 101.

“Please enjoy the lovely weather and don’t spoil a nice summer’s day out for anyone else by acting irresponsibly.”

The chief inspector’s comments come days after cops struggled to bring around 6,000 revellers under control last week as good weather brought young people out into the area.

A 14-year-old was among several people arrested, and the majority of arrests on the beach were for breach of the peace, however, two people were detained for alleged possession of offensive weapons.

Police also seized "significant quantities" of alcohol.

Around 25 officers and police horses were deployed as the force dealt with the crowds last Tuesday.

It is thought large numbers of people flocked to the beach after hearing about the gathering on social media.
