Irn Bru's latest advert has caused a stir among fans of the fizzy drink after AG Barr's decision to include a new risqué slogan.

The advert, which was aired for the first time last night on STV, features an awkward 'meet the parents' scene, where the woman's partner, Dave decides he wants to leave.

After announcing that he doesn't like his girlfriend's dad , who asks him “when are you going to marry my daughter?”, Dave asks his missus if they can go elsewhere, to which she replies "we can't right now!"

Dave then tells her: “Don’t be a can’t, you need a can.”

The cheeky lad then hands his shocked partner a can of new recipe Irn-Bru.

She takes a drink and within minutes the pair are dancing the night away at a foam party in a packed club along with the girlfriend's mum and dog.

Fans were quick to comment on the new advert with some praising Bru's bravery but others were not so impressed.

Twitter user @Clantastic said: "Traditionally strong Irn-Bru marketing now reinforcing the bad PR from new recipe with p*** advert.

Another @calebpenman83 added: "That new Irn-Bru advert is terrible, bring back the shop lifting auld wife."

Some fans loved the advert with user @KevinRyan85: "That new Irn Bru advert is quality. "Don't be a caaaaant!"

User @rwbdavies also praised the advert writing: "What a truly brilliant advert. Thank God IRN-BRU is still brave funny and can."

This is not the first time the fizzy favourite has come under fire for its questionable advertising, with their 2012 campaign featuring a baby named Fanny, receiving several complaints and dividing fans.

Last month the Evening Times reported that more than 47,000 people signed a petition calling for AG Barr to reverse their decision to change the recipe of the beloved soft drink.

Complaints however fell on deaf ears as bosses confirmed that production of the full-sugar recipe had been axed.
