A FOOTBALL fan who was arrested at an Old Firm match has been put off the game for life.

Thomas Lees, 27, came to the attention of police when he was told to leave an area of Ibrox Stadium by security staff but lashed out with his arms and refused to go.

Police intervened, restrained the accused and placed him in a van to be taken to the station.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court, Lees pleaded guilty to struggling with a safety stand manager, security supervisor and two police constables on March 11 this year.

In defence it was explained that he had taken alcohol before the game and travelled through to the city on a supporters' bus. It was claimed that the accused was "embarrassed" and had difficulty sleeping because of his actions.

Lees, who had held a season ticket for three years and attended games all his life, does not intend to go back to a match.

Sheriff Brian Cameron fined the accused, of St Paul's Drive in West Lothian, £500.

Sheriff Cameron refused the Crown's motion for a Football Banning Order, but warned Lees that if there's a repeat of his behaviour he "won't be as lucky".
