Verdict: Four stars

POP princess Katy Perry doesn’t do things by small measures - as she proved when her latest tour rolled into Glasgow’s SSE Hydro tonight.
The Witness Tour was the type of big production which is a rarity at the city venue.

But then Katy Perry isn’t like her contemporaries. Part of her charm is her originality and unique ability to put the fun back into pop music.
Wearing a glittery red dress with a hood covering her pixie blonde hair, she commanded the arena from the get go as she strutted along a spiralling walkway throughout the standing section.

Witness opened up the show before the singer belted out hits Dark Horse, Chained to the Rhythm and Teenage Dream.
From that point the whole audience was transfixed on the star, and truly taken into Katy Perry’s world. For she created a Disneyland-esque stage show - which was both magical and a place to expect the unexpected.

She beamed: “I’m not one of those pop stars from America who just thinks you’re British, no I don’t make that mistake.
“We are sharing this one planet together wherever you’re from but there is definitely something about Scottish blood.”
She then joked: “I didn’t want to be late for you. You don’t mess with people from Glasgow.”

The chatty star then took credit for the soaring Scottish temperatures by claiming she brought the California weather.
She joked, “You’re welcome,” before performing Californian Girls.

Katy Perry is likeable and makes good pop music, but more than that she is artist who truly cares about her fans. She doesn’t just put on a pop concert, she gives them an experience.
Even her support act, Pitch Perfect actress and singer Hailee Steinfeld, is a top performer in her own right.
She earlier wowed the crowd with hits Starving and Most Girls.

But the night was about Miss Perry who continued to offer up the hits from her decade-long dominance of the pop charts.
Witness single Bon Appétit mashed with Janet Jackson’s What Have You Done For Me Lately was a highlight.
While, Part Of Me and Roar leaded beautifully to the closing show-stopper Firework.

This tour has been travelling around the world since last September but Perry put on a performance as energetic as an opening night - and that is reason why she stays at the top of her game.
