A cannabis farm in the roof a block of flats in Glasgow's East End could have been responsible for a blaze which tore through the building.

The fire broke out shortly after 6.30pm on Friday in Tollcross Park Gardens.

Residents of the flat block and nearby buildings were evacuated as emergency services worked to bring the situation under control.

Two people were treated for smoke inhalation and one family has been made homeless as a result.

Glasgow City Council confirmed a woman and her daughter were put up in a hotel while all others affected had somewhere else to stay.

Enquiries into the cause of the fire are ongoing, with police looking into whether cannabis plants were being kept in the roof.

Locals have suggested that the resident responsible fled the scene and has still to be tracked down by police.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "Enquiries into the fire are continuing. One line being looked at is that there was a cannabis cultivation within the property."
