Pedro Caixinha has backed his Rangers recruits to come good after watching new boys Alfredo Morelos and Eduardo Herrera put Ross County to the sword in the highlands.

Morelos hit a first-half double to seemingly have the visitors cruising towards three points, but County rallied at the interval to drag themselves back into the game through a Thomas Mikkelsen header.

Substitute Herrera popped up to seal the victory for Rangers in the final minute though with a composed finish, and Caixinha was delighted with the contribution made by not only his two strikers, but by the likes of Daniel Candeias, Fabio Cardoso and substitute Carlos Pena.

“I think Alfredo is a goalscorer and he is scoring goals,” said Caixinha. “He will continue scoring goals.

“Strikers live for goals. Morales is scoring so he is getting confidence. Herrera really needed this because he is a hard worker, he is desperate to score goals, I know him very, very well.

!He is a guy who works really hard to get the things he wants and of course he will keep working hard but he has more confidence when he is in front of goal and has the final shot.

“Daniel was brilliant in the first half with great deliveries. He is always available. I know him because I worked with him before so I know he would be the type who would come here and work perfectly.

“Fabio still needs to grow a little more. He needs to understand the duels, the balls up in the air, the fight the strikes place on him.

“But he's a young boy, he's very gifted and he has the best professor on his side. He is definitely going to grow and be a very good player for our squad.

“You saw how many times [Pena] gets in the box, even from wide left? He is this type of player. He is going to get used to it and he will get the right rhythm.

“It’s about games and minutes, about getting a rhythm from playing. He will be a totally different player, I know. I have no doubts about the type of player we have.

“I think all of them are going to be interesting players. They are team players, we just need to give them time and give them confidence.”

Caixinha took heart from the way that his side managed to dig out a win in the second half that had looked to be a formality after a blistering first-half performance.

The Rangers boss said that he wasn’t too concerned about the lull from his men in the second half, choosing to focus more on how they got over the line by hook or by crook.

“Sometimes that happens in a game,” he said.

“We need to control things a little more. We had to reorganise and reshape the team with the substitutions in order to try to stop what the opponent was doing.

“I was pleased with the first half, I didn't like the way we lost easily some passes that led to the goal in the second half.

“That also led to the momentum of the game shifting in that stage of the game to the opponent.

“We lost a lot of balls. We didn't control the game by having the ball so that's something we need to analyse with the boys.

“Games like this teach us that the games are about winning. Sometimes you need to suffer or can't play the best way, the game is still about winning.

“So, I'm pleased with the work of the boys and I'm pleased with the result.

“We are back to winnings ways which is the most important thing.”

Caixinha will leave his transfer business in the hands of Director of Football Mark Allen during the international break.

“Mark will be in charge of it," he said. "I will go to Portugal for a class in the university and we will be in contact with Mark. We know what we want and we are working on what we want and we hope to do it.”
