THE language barrier will take time to overcome. The goals speak for themselves, though.

Alfredo Morelos has become the name on the lips of the Light Blue legions in recent weeks as he has hit the ground running for Rangers.

A brace against Dunfermline was followed by the opening goal against Hibernian and the striker took his tally to five in four games with the double that saw off Ross County before the international break.

Morelos has already handled one major move in his career after he made the switch from Independiente Medellin to HJK Helsinki. Now he has made an impressive start to life at Ibrox after he joined Pedro Caixinha’s side on a three-year deal.

The Colombian arrived in Glasgow as an unknown quantity but strike partner Kenny Miller hopes he can make a name for himself in the Premiership this term.

“He’s going to get better over the course of the season but what we’ve had early doors is that he’s managed to get us goals,” he said.

“That’s great for him to settle his way into the team, so long may that continue while his form and understanding of his team-mates is only going to improve over the course of the season.

“For a start you are on your own. You’ve got team-mates you can latch on to and other people around who can maybe help you through it.

“We have lads in the dressing room who speak his language and will all help each other get through their opening months here.

“It’s different for a young lad, I mean he’s only 21 years old so it’s always going to be hard for him but he has settled pretty well.

“They’re a good group of lads within the dressing room so we’ll do whatever we can to help the lad settle in.

“But firstly and most importantly he is performing on the park and has got off to a flier with his goals.”

It has been all change at Ibrox this summer as Caixinha overhauled his Rangers ranks ahead of his first full campaign at the helm.

Morelos has been joined at Ibrox by the likes of Bruno Alves and Carlos Pena as the Gers squad has taken on a fresh complexion.

Miller has made several switches throughout his career as he has plied his trade on both sides of the border and with Bursaspor and Vancouver Whitecaps.

And the Gers striker is pleased to see Morelos quickly adapting to life in Light Blue as he has made a positive first impression for Caixinha’s side.

Miller said: “For me wherever I have gone - whether it be Turkey or just down in England - I was always focussed on the football. No matter what happened away from the pitch I was focussed on my game.

“But it is hard when you’re moving away from friends and family and you’re out there on your own. But he has a good club behind him to help him settle.

“Football bridges languages and you can still build up an understanding with someone on the pitch - but obviously it always helps when you can communicate well. That’s a big part of our game, but again that will improve over the course of the season.

“But personally for him it’s been a good start to his Rangers career with his goals and obviously for the team we need to start putting wins together.”

Miller was one of the few Rangers players to emerge with any credit last term as the Light Blues finished third in the Premiership and missed out on cup silverware.

He has started the campaign as an integral part of Caixinha’s plans once again as he has partnered Morelos in the Gers attack in the last few outings.

The Ibrox crowd have taken the 21-year-old to their hearts in recent weeks and Miller knows it was important to get on the scoresheet as quickly as possible.

He said: “You can never tell how good he’s going to get but the fact he has managed to get goals early doors is a big plus.

“You can see the type of player he is and it will improve, not only by understanding his team-mates but also with experience as he gets older.

“He’ll work out what he needs to do to help his team-mates and as team-mates we need to understand what these new lads want as well to help them. But again, the fact he’s a goal-getter is a nice habit to have.

“It depends on your character and whether you let the pressure get to you. When I came here I didn’t score in my first six or seven games but I was always quite comfortable that what I was doing was the right thing and that goals would come.

“But the fact of the matter is that he’s got five goals in his first seven games so he’s settled in well and long may that continue.”
