I said last week that I was looking forward to Scotland’s games with Costa Rica and Hungary and I think there was plenty for Alex McLeish to take from both matches.
I have to say, I thought the reaction after the game on Friday night was terrible.
We have got a handful of friendly games to find out who can help us qualify for the European Championships and it is all about experimenting at this stage.

The reaction from a lot of people, including some former players, was over the top and they slaughtered Alex for the performance. You would think they would know better and understand what the manager is trying to do.
There were far more positives against Hungary on Tuesday but then you get people saying ‘well, it is only Hungary and they are a poor side’. We just can’t win sometimes.
We get beat at home and get criticised but then go away from home and win and there are still negative comments.

There were positives for Scotland. The big thing for me was the performance of Scott McKenna and hopefully he can become the dominant centre-half that we need.
He has a good build, is strong and he can use the ball at his feet and Alex will surely be pleased with him, and the likes of Matt Phillips and Oliver McBurnie.
There will be a different look to the squad for the games with Peru and Mexico at the end of the season and it is a learning curve all the time for the manager and the players.
