Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Charly Musonda's assocation with the Parkhead club appears to be over.

The 21-year-old arrived at the club in the January transfer window but has failed to make an impact at Celtic.

He featured just eight times for the club but made just three starts for Rodgers' side.

It would seem highly unlikely that Musonda will return to Celtic after the summer break.

“He has gone back to Chelsea," confirmed Rodgers. "He injured his shoulder while the squad were away so we sent him back to get treatment. It’s similar to what happened with Patrick Roberts at Man City.

“He’s their player so they have to assess him. I doubt he will return this season but we’ll have a chat with Chelsea and Charly in the summer.

“It works both ways. The player comes to get some game time and I will never bring a young player if I can’t give him game time.

“If he doesn’t then I’m always conscious that if it’s not going to be for him then we’ll look at it.

“He’s been unfortunate the team has been playing so well. He’s had some time but we’ll speak about it in the summer and go from there.”

Meanwhile, Rodgers has also spoken of his prayers for Sir Alex Ferguson who is in intensive care.

The iconic Old Trafford figure had to undergo emergency surgery for a brain haemorrhage on Saturday, with Rodgers among the significant voices wishing him a full recovery.

"It was a big shock to us all when we heard, because he was a man in great health, as we’ve all seen," said the Celtic manager. "He’s a colossal manager and an inspiration to all young managers with his achievements and the way he conducts himself.

“We all hope and pray he makes a good recovery and gets back to doing what he has done all of his life - inspiring young managers like myself.”
