BRAEHEAD CLAN have signed Canadian left winger Corey Cowick from Florida Everblades for next season.

The 27-year-old was with the ECHL club last season and has previously represented the Binghamton Senators and Springfield Falcons in the AHL.

Cowick, who has been handed the number 27 jersey for the new campaign, scored 14 goals and provided 12 assists for the Everblades last season.

Clan head coach Ryan Finnerty revealed that the deal had taken some time to complete and that he had spent time doubting whether or not the signing would go ahead.Glasgow Times: Neil Trimm enjoyed his time under Ryan Finnerty, above. Picture: Al Goold

“Corey’s name was high on our list early.  We even though at one point he was unattainable,” he said.

“We were able to persist with his agent which involved some long nights and lengthy phone calls and messages, but we eventually arrived at a deal and we’re delighted to have him.

“We’ve been looking for some size - a power forward kinda guy and plays a powerful game as he gets to the net.

“He maybe hasn’t got the numbers he would like, but if you look at his output in the American league, he’s scored 15, 16 goals a season.

“We want to give him that opportunity. We like that he can play a power game and that he’s not afraid to get in the mix and play in the hard areas.

“We think if we can surround him with the type of players we want to, we’ll see that offence he had in the AHL and then some.”
