ANDY HALLIDAY admits Rangers owe the Light Blue legions an Old Firm win after a barren run of derby form.

The Gers have not tasted victory over Celtic in nine attempts since Mark Warburton’s side won on penalties at Hampden two years ago.

The Glasgow giants will go head-to-head in the Scottish Cup semi-finals on Sunday and Halliday is determined to build on the much-needed Premiership success over Dundee.

He said: “I’ve had good and bad experiences, but 100 per cent it’s a unique game.

“It’s a special kind of atmosphere and all of the experience that you can get in these games you can certainly use to your advantage.

“If I am called upon, I’ll be delighted to play. If not, I’ll support the boys all the way.

“We certainly owe the supporters it. We’ve had a lot of disappointing memories in the Old Firm over the past couple of years.

“We’re confident that, if we play to the highest of our ability, we can get a result. However, Celtic certainly go into the game as favourites.

“The last game was just typical Old Firm. The results of these games are detailed on fine margins and there were quite a few margins in that game.

“It was a game we certainly felt we could have come away with a win, but, unfortunately, we didn’t get it.

“The most important thing for us is that we have to play well on the day.

“Be at a high standard for 90 minutes and not just in spells as we did against Dundee again.

“We need to be at it from the first whistle until the end.”

Much of the talk and debate in the build-up to derby day is likely to focus on the future of Ibrox boss Graeme Murty.

But Halliday insists everyone in Light Blue is playing for their place at the club after another frustrating campaign to date.

He said: “It could be a factor in all our futures. I don’t think the gaffer will be looking too far ahead.

“He is the Rangers manager just now and has done a good job of stabilising the club. He has brought good players in and we have had many good results – unfortunately we had three poor results over the past few weeks

“It is massive occasion, so we are all playing, and trying to play well, to stay at this football club and do well. There are many factors but hopefully we can have the bragging rights after the game.

“It’s about showing that when you play in these games no-one is going to come and take the jersey off you.

“Fundamentally, that is the most important thing. We are all here to play.

“So when you have got that jersey, you need to make it the biggest fight ever that no-one is going to take it off you.”
