The death of a man found seriously injured on a North Glasgow street is being treated as 'suspicious'.

The 28-year-old, named locally as Billyjoe Bates, was taken to Glasgow's Royal Infirmary after the attack in Milton around 2.30pm on Sunday but succumbed to his injuries on Thursday morning.

The victim is said to be the half-brother of Billy Bates, who was murdered in 2007 and found dumped in an oil drum in the River Clyde.

Billy Joe is also believed to be friends with Kenny Reilly, who was shot dead as he sat at a set of traffic lights in Maryhill earlier this year.

Glasgow podcast presenter James English was one of many to pay tribute to Billyjoe following the news of his death.

The TV personality said he was 'devestated' at losing his brother.

Police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

Detective Inspector Scott McCallum from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team said: “A man has lost his life after being found seriously injured in the street and it is absolutely vital that anyone with information about what happened to him, or who is responsible, comes forward.

“At this time it is unclear whether he was assaulted in the street or elsewhere and I would appeal to anyone who can help us establish the circumstances to come forward.
