A MASSIVE fire has ripped through a block of flats in Glasgow’s South Side.

Firefighters are currently at the scene on Skirving Street in Shawlands.

It is believed that many residents in the area have been evacuated.

One woman was spotted being treated with oxygen by the Scottish Ambulance Service.

A total of three ambulances were also at the scene, with much of the lower part of Skirving Street sealed off to emergency services.

By 9.30am, the fire had been extinguished but firefighters and police could still be seen in and around the block. 

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We were alerted at 8.33am to reports of a fire within a first floor flat in a four storey block on Skirving Street, Glasgow.

“Operations Control mobilised four fire engines and an aerial appliance to the scene where firefighters assisted two people from the building before handing them into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

“The fire is now extinguished and crews remain in attendance as they work to make the area safe.”
