As the council consider legal changes which could effectively ban lap dancing clubs, the Evening Times asked the people of Glasgow whether they would like to see the venues closed...

Ross Whyte, 40, west end

“I don’t think that lap dance clubs should be banned. I don’t see that there’s any harm in it.

"As long as the employees are safe and are not being exploited or are at risk in any way I don’t see any problem.

"If the outcome is that businesses close it seems that there’s a major flaw there. If people are out of work that’s problematic.”

Chris James, 26, Shawlands

“I’m surprised they don’t have a specific licence already. It seems like a sensible idea.

"I don’t know about banning them - free society and all that. The trouble when you start regulating anything is the market and supply and demand.”

Laura Chambers, 22, Glasgow

“Maybe specific licences are a good idea. If it’s their own choice to go in and be a lap dancer then fair enough.

"However, you do get some folk that are forced to do it. If there are specific licenses then that could stop that.

"I don’t think they should be banned. As long as it’s not causing any harm to anyone else, and everything’s done safely I don’t see why they should be banned.”

Jasmine Tennant, 25, Mount Florida, brand manager

“I think that there should be specific licences. That way, they can be more closely monitored and it can be a safer environment.

"I think banning lap dance clubs could create an illegal area that would be unsafe. If it is specifically licences it can be monitored and safe.”
