A CITY centre bookies could be turned into a gym - if planners give the move the go-ahead.

WH Bothwell Limited wants to take over the location on 89 West Campbell Street. They have asked Glasgow City Council for permission to change the use of the unit which was previously a bookmaker.

A planning statement said: "The proposal will bring back into active use a vacant unit, adding to the vitality of the city centre.

"Furthermore, the proposed use as a gym will complement and support the main functions of the city centre/International Financial Services District.

"The proposal will help create a healthier place to live and work by offering further choice in the provision of sports/leisure activities in the city."
