The heartbroken family of Gregor Gibbons has started a fundraising drive to create a memorial in his honour.

The Find Gregor social media page created the JustGiving page following the discovery of the missing man's body last week.

The 32-year-old, who was first reported missing on July 2, was recovered from the River Kelvin on Friday.

The page says that the family wishes to create a permanent memorial for Gregor and hope to raise £500. There are no further details over what the memorial would entail.

More than £700 has been raised by wellwishers on the page so far for the popular Rangers fan from Colston.

One said: "Our thoughts are with all Gregor's family at this time. No words can take the heartache away. A special memorial would be a touching tribute to him."

Another added: "You’ll be singing 'follow follow'“ up there in heaven."

The high-profile search for Gregor not only formed part of a huge policing operation, it involved appeals by Glasgow singer Gerry Cinnamon and his favourite football club Rangers with ex-player Nacho Novo also supporting the campaign.

Glasgow Times:

His heartbroken wife Leeanne, 34, previously said that Gregor was not only her husband he was her life.
