THE wife of Fernando Ricksen has spoken of her grief following the Rangers legend's death.

Veronika, who is the mother of the daughter's couple Isabella, said she is going through the most difficult time in her life since her husband passed after a six-year battle with Motor Neurone Disease.Ā 

The 33-year-old Russian, who was at herĀ husband's bedside at St Andrew's Hospice in Airdrie as he battled the illness,Ā said: "Most difficult time in my life, without you my love.

"I still canā€™t believe in that and never will because you always will be my best husband and most beautiful man in my life.

"I canā€™t tell you how proud Iā€™m of youĀ for this hardest battle in your life but you are the winnerĀ and always will be for all people who fight this horrible disease.Ā 

"My star shine bright for us please.Ā Me and our little angel Isabella look at you every single day.

"We love you to the moon and back. I need you here with me, every day RicksenĀ never give up."

The heartbreaking message comes after Veronika said goodbye to her husband, who died at 43, at his funeral last week. In tribute to her late husband, sheĀ wore a black football shirt with his surname and the number two to the service.Ā 

The footballing legend's funeral was attended by thousands of fans who showed their respect as theĀ cortege passed by Ibrox Stadium before travelling to Wellington Church in the city's West End.Ā 

Former teammates Nacho Novo, Michael Mols, and Thomas Buffel were among the pallbearers at the service.

His funeral was also attended by those involved in the world of football including current Rangers manager Steven Gerrard andĀ CelticĀ boss Neil Lennon.Ā
