A four-year-old boy has suffered a broken leg after being struck by a car in Renfrewshire.

The boy and his mother had been crossing Gallow Green Road in Paisley at around 5.20pm on Thursday when he was hit by the vehicle.

Emergency services attended the scene and the boy was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow where he was treated for a broken leg.

A 40-year-old man has now been charged with road traffic offences over the incident.

A police spokeswoman said: "At around 5.20pm on Thursday police were called to Gallow Green Road after reports that a four-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle.

"Emergency services attended and the boy was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow.

"A 40-year-old man has been charged with road traffic offences and a report has been sent to the procurator fiscal."
