Kenny Miller has backed Oli McBurnie to get Scotland fans back on track with a goal tonight - even though he may receive a prickly welcome at Hampden.

McBurnie was caught on Sheffield United TV discussing his call-up to Steve Clarke's squad where he implied he'd rather not be on international duty.

The striker received an angry backlash from members of the Tartan Army with some even demanding he never wear the dark blue again.

Former Scotland striker Miller, though, believes the £20million man can shrug off any criticism with a top performance and a goal this evening in his side's Euro 2020 qualifier against Russia.

And ex-Rangers ace Miller is hopeful McBurnie will do just that.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Miller laughed: "I think the fans will give him a warm welcome, particularly if things aren't going well.

"No, but he seems like a character who'll be able to stand up to these kind of things and he'll back his own abilities as a footballer to go and prove people wrong and prove he deserves to be in that number nine shirt.

"It's a tough role, chances are few and far between as an international striker for Scotland.

"Tonight would be a great place to start for him, not only a performance but a goal would be great as well."
