Rangers winning this season's Scottish Premiership could be enough to seal the Liverpool manager's job for Steven Gerrard.

That's the opinion of former Manchester United defender John O'Shea.

The Irishman believes Gerrard will, indeed, be the boss at Anfield one day.

Current manager Jurgen Klopp has also recently admitted he'd like to see the ex-skipper take over from him when he eventually does leave the club.

And O'Shea reckons the ideal preparation for Gerrard going into the hot seat at one of European football's superpowers would be to finally end Celtic's dominance as domestic champions.

Speaking on Sky Sports' The Debate, O'Shea said: "Steven Gerrard will be, I have no doubt, Liverpool manager at some stage in his career.

"The ideal scenario is to go in to a successful team and not an ageing team.

"You want to take over a team in its prime.

"What he's doing at the minute, if he can bring that league title back to Rangers and wrestle it from Celtic, that's going to be a perfect grounding for him to try and come back to Liverpool.

"Klopp is going to get very close to a league title in the next few seasons, but if he doesn't [win one], what a chance for Gerrard."
