A MAN who threatened to burn down Ibrox Stadium and bomb Barlinnie prison has avoided jail.

Thomas Flanigan was instead put on an 18-month community payback order for the incidents in June this year.

Glasgow Sheriff Court was told he initially called Barlinnie in the early hours after he had been drinking.

Guard Robert Cairnie answered the phone to the 23 year-old described as “rambling in meaningless conversation.”

He was then ordered not to call back.

But, prosecutor Lauren Donnelly told the hearing: “Flanigan said he would be waiting on him at the bottom of the road, that he was going to blow up the jail and that he was around the corner.

Police were alerted and spoke to Flanigan at his home in the city's Kelvinbridge.

Miss Donnelly added: “Flanigan became aggressive and stated: ‘You are a bunch of f*****g c***s, take these cuffs off and see what happens.”

At the police station, he continued to rant at officers.

Miss Donnelly said: “He said: ‘I will smash your c**t in and I will burn down Ibrox, those huns’.”

Flanigan today/yesterday returned to the dock after admitting to two charges of threatening and abusive behaviour.

The CPO involves the lout being supervised for 18 months.

Sheriff Joan Kerr told him: “This is an alternative to custody.

“If you stop doing what you have been told then I can still send you to prison.”

Marissa Borland, defending, earlier told the court Flanigan had been dealing with family trouble at the time.

She said: “The previous week, he met his father and this opened up wounds in terms of his upbringing. It was all too much for him."
